New cybersecurity labeling plan of White House by 2024

White House is bringing a new cybersecurity plan to label smart devices based on the Internet of Things

Cybersecurity benchmarks are much similar to the Energy Star labeling program

Cybersecurity labeling attempts to set a security standard for smart devices like mobile phones, refrigerators, laptops, TV

Device makers and sellers will have to follow the standard, failing which a penalty can be imposed

Poorly secured devices often result in data stealing, hacking

The most infamous cyber attack is an incident involving Mirai malware (2016) that took over smart devices and resulted in denial of service

The labeling initiative is expected to start operating in 2024
